Ted Kobayashi, CPA
About Ted
Ted was born in Japan and came to the United States to study at California State University, Los Angeles. He received his Bachelor’s degree and began to practice as an accountant in 1971. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the California Society of Certified Public Accounts (CSCPA), along with the states of Washington and Hawaii where he also holds CPA licenses. In 2003, Ted earned the title of Certified Valuation Analyst from the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
Ted Kobayashi has provided accounting and tax services to automobile dealerships since 1971. Many of Ted’s clients are in the Auto Age 500 top dealerships based on sales. Ted’s major clients include the Cal Worthington dealerships; Dealer Operating Control Service dealerships; Summit Motor Management Group; and the Don Hankey dealership group.
Ted was instrumental in organizing a California dealers’ “self-insured worker’s compensation” company as an accountant and advisor from its inception. Presently, there are nearly 250 dealerships that are part of this organization.
Ted’s expertise in automobile dealership operations, accounting, franchise (sales) agreements, Department of Motor Vehicle laws and regulations, sales tax and income tax, is very valuable and helpful. Due to his extensive background, as well as his intense dedication to each client, Ted occupies a majority of this time consulting on a one-to-one basis with clients on complex matters not normally obtainable with most accounting firms. Ted was previously a Partner in Accounting and Business Advisory Services Department of the international accounting firm of Laventhol & Horwath, who dissolved its practice and Ted formed Kobayashi & Company in December 1990. Kobayashi & Company continues to expand and provide top quality business and tax consulting services, buy/sell assistance, and litigation support to automotive dealerships located in California, Nevada, Washington, New York, Hawaii and Alaska.
